An SD-WAN is a software-defined wide-area network. It is a specific application of software-defined networking (SDN) technology that is used for WAN (wide-area network) connections. They connect enterprise networks such as branch offices and data centers around the world.
An SD-WAN has the ability to drive segmentation. Many say it is more secure than MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching Protocol) because MPLS does not encrypt traffic. SD-WAN automatically encrypts traffic.
